Jarhead [8/10]

I liked this flick a lot better the second time around. When I first watched it a couple of months ago, I couldn't get over how much it completely ripped off was inspired by Full Metal Jacket. However, When you go in knowing that it's essentially an updated version of Kubrick's dark comedy classic (just set during the Gulf War, with less subtle humour, a similar pop-inspired soundtrack, more CGI effects, and way more Jammie Foxx) it's a lot easier to appreciate how good it is. And at the end of the day I'd much rather watch a well done homage to a great film, then sit through horribly done "original" indie bullshit like Little Miss Sunshine or Me You and Everyone We Know.
